Mania '03 Results
The Rose Valley School of Dance proudly
presented Dance Mania '03, their third annual dance competition at the
Rose Valley School gymnasium Saturday, March 22 and Sunday, March 23.
370 dancers ranging in age from 4 to 18
years old from 16 dance studios in Rose Valley, Melfort, Nipawin,
Humboldt, Tisdale, Porcupine Plain, Kelvington, Wadena, Norquay,
Wynyard, Quill Lake, Watson, Lanigan, Englefeld, St. Brieux and Raymore
participated in this very exciting event. Solos, duets, small
and large groups of dancers in jazz, tap and ballet competed in age
division for medals, marks and other awards. 327 entries were
on the two day program.
Dancers started arriving at the school at
8:00 am both days to start preparing for each days competition, which
started at 9:00 am and ended at 9:45 pm Saturday evening and at 4:00 pm
Sunday when the final group of dancers exited the stage.
Excitement and enthusiasm filled the school gymnasium both days as most
young dancers waited for their first chance to perform this dance
season. Appreciative audiences of up to 350 were entertained
with some dazzling performances throughout the competition.
Approximately 850 spectators took in some part of Dance mania '03 over
the two day event.
Paultette Puetz, owner/operator of the
Dance Centre in Melfort commented that she has seen the level of dance
increase at Dance Mania all three years that her studio has
participated at Dance Mania. Brad Harley, Dance Mania
co-ordinator agreed, adding that this wouldn't be possible without the
high quality instruction that is provided to these young dancers by
their instructors. The choreography, costumes and music
selection was superb, as this part of the province is home to many of
the best young dancers in Saskatchewan.
The adjudicator for Dance Mania '03 was
Mrs. Carol Ann Hanson from Eston, SK, a very respected member of the
dance community. Mrs. Hanson owns and operates dance studios
in Eston and Kindersley. She also adjudicates at other
competitions, is an examiner in tap and jazz and is a board ember of
numerous provincial and national dance organizations.
Medals were presented to the top 3
finishers in all categories as the competition progressed .
At the conclusion of Dance Mania '03 a final awards ceremony took place
